SAXOPHONE DRAWING

Throughout my time as an art tutor, I taught countless times how to draw the reflections of metal. I knew that the key was in seeing a full scale of grey and in truly observing what you actually see. I knew a project like this would take a lot of time and keen attention to detail, and I always encouraged my students to be patient with it. While I knew what it would take, I had never done such a project myself. I started by practicing with a small thumbnail sketch of a spoon. I noticed quickly how many details are in it, and how if I observed every single one it would take a long time. This piece took exactly that - a long time. I almost went cross eyed a couple times trying to keep track of what shade was which on my reference photo. Nonetheless I was determined to finish it, and I am extremely satisfied with the result, and the fact that I pushed myself through a challenge. This work is now for sale on my store.

Materials used: Graphite, Charcoal.
